Day 6 Out and About…….Not So Much

A few weeks ago, my doctor advised that it would be best that I not return to my career as a REALTOR. I kind of figured that might happen so I have been giving some thought as what I might do as my new career. Over the years, if there is one thing that I have always enjoyed is being outside while I work. Though I am sure I have the talent and skill set for many high income office professions, I have always enjoyed the changing scenery of my work each day. I always enjoyed the days of showing properties but I was not a happy camper when I was in the office for any amount of time.

Today was spent doing a lot of paperwork and research for my possible new career. My experience this past winter de-icing aircraft has led me to look at training to becoming a heavy equipment operator. So today, I filled out a lot of paperwork that could possibly get me government funding for the training required to be a heavy equipment operator. Heck, I have paid in more than my fair share of income tax over the last 12 years, so if the government is handing out money, why not try to get some of it back. If I do not get it, I will proceed with the training any ways.

As with any government program, they make you jump through a lot of hoops and fill out a mountain of papers. I did not mind as some of the required work was to do research on the career and what the future outlook will be for the profession. As of right now, the future looks bright for the equipment operator field.

Part of my day was spent looking for various personal documents, some of which I have not looked at in years. Then came the pleasure of filling out online government forms, I swear that for one application, I had to input my date of birth no less than 10 times. I also had to order one document online from the provincial government, it was funny the options they give you and just when you think you have it figured out, they throw a curve ball and you have to start all over again.

I did venture out to the grocery store to pick up a few items for dinner, over the last little bit, I have been asking Renee to stop on the way home from work. It was also very cool and windy today so it was a good day to do stuff inside. Tomorrow, I plan to get in a long ride as the weather forecast is looking great.

Here is hoping that the long weekend weather is better than forecasted so that Renee and I can do something outside together.

About fatguy2triguy

On the morning of Dec 21,2010, I woke up not feeling so good. The next thing I knew I was at the Ottawa General Hospital Emergency Room thinking I was having a heart attack. Luckily it was not a heart attack but a chest virus. This event scared me enough to get serious about my health. In the past two years, I have lost 80 lbs, started running races and completed my first half marathon. Though I did not reach my goal of losing 100lbs in two years, I am very happy at my progress so far. I am sure I would have reach my goal if it had not been for a few health challenges in 2012 such as emergency gallbladder surgery followed by a nasty post op infection. At one point we thought the infection was all cleared up but it was not and it went deep. That led to yet another health scare where my doctors were checking to see if I had ALS, MS, Huntington’s or other muscle diseases. It turned out to be a continuation of the post op infection. All this stopped me from training at a level that would have helped me reach my goal. I guess it is true, that what does not kill us, will only make us stronger. I am on the mend now and things are slowly getting back to normal, well as normal as I will ever be. Now it is time to get focused again on my health goals. When I started on this journey, my ultimate goal was to complete the IRONMAN in Kona, Hawaii. That is still a long-term goal that I want to complete by 2015, in the short term I plan to complete IRONMAN Miami 2013. Another goal for the coming year, is not only to complete losing the 100lbs that I started but also to lose another 20lbs on top on that with a goal of being 180lbs by the time I do IRONMAN Miami. Follow me on my journey.
